Strong El Niño Probable

Computer models indicate a strong El Niño this year, with a 95% chance that the event will continue through the winter, but according to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, there are still no guarantees that the powerful event will occur. In order for this winter’s El Niño to rival the El Niño of 1997-98, the east-to-west trade winds of the Pacific Ocean along the equator need to collapse, and that hasn’t happened yet.
