WannaCry Ransomware Attack

As the recent WannaCry ransomware attack has shown, it is crucial for agencies to update their computer security systems on a regular basis and keep staff trained in detecting and avoiding malware. The virus encrypts all the files on infected computers and demands a ransom of $300 in bitcoin. New victims of the virus are still emerging, and according to the Los Angeles Times, the number of hacked computers has risen to more than 300,000. The attack needlessly renders computers unusable that have not been kept current, and only affects software that is no longer supported by Microsoft. Members are encouraged to automatically accept software updates and consider upgrading to Windows 10.
