New Governance Leadership Academy Held in May

The California JPIA’s new Governance Leadership Academy, created specifically with seasoned elected officials in mind, was a big success, held virtually from May 4 – 6, 2021. The small group of elected officials from member agencies who attended the academy had the opportunity to network with one another and interact personally with the speakers and the Authority’s executive staff. Throughout the academy, Kevin Duggan and Ken Hampian, both former city managers, led the attendees in a series of sessions on important topics such as “From Campaign to Governance,” “Keys to Being an Effective Governing Body Member,” and “Goal Setting,” in which they were joined by Jim Lewis, City Manager of the City of Pismo Beach. The last session, “Elected Officials’ Guide to Social Media,” with Scott Grossberg was a highlight of the academy, as this was a timely, relevant topic to many agencies.

The Authority’s academies provide strategies for effective and creative solutions that benefit all members. For more information on the Governance Leadership Academy or other California JPIA academies, please contact Michelle Aguayo by email or (562) 467-8777.
