To assist Authority members with outdoor dining risks, an outdoor dining checklist has been added to the Authority’s online library as a resource to members.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant increase in outdoor business activities within the public right-of-way. While dining decks, parklets, and other similar outdoor dining areas have contributed to helping local businesses survive the pandemic, their proximity to moving vehicles can create safety concerns. Public agencies are sometimes faced with balancing public safety with supporting local businesses. The Authority’s outdoor dining checklist asks members to consider installation of barriers, permits, ADA requirements, proximity to traffic, and other factors to address public safety concerns.
Members can find this resource in the Authority’s online library in the “checklist” category or by using the keyword “dining.” For questions about this resource, members should contact their regional risk manager.
